RCI: Bekas Ketua Menteri Sabah tarik diri

-TMI

PRESS STATEMENT INSECURITY – GREATEST FAILURE OF FEDERATION OF MALAYSIA – DR JEF...

PRESS STATEMENT

INSECURITY – GREATEST FAILURE OF FEDERATION OF MALAYSIA – DR JEFFREY

..........................................................................................................

Kota Kinabalu: “The insecurity felt by Malaysians in Sabah is the greatest failure of the Federation of Malaysia and the reality is now turning into a nightmare even for lawmakers from the Barisan Nasional”, said Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, STAR Sabah Chief, in response to the statement by YB. Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar that he fears for his life to the extent he fears that he will be shot dead the moment he step out of Parliament House.”

The recent daily killings and violent crimes were not confined to the Peninsular but has also spread to Sabah and with the rising crime rate, Malaysians are now living in fear.

Security was the key factor why Sabah was pushed into agreeing to form Malaysia in 1963 with the alleged twin threats from the Philippines and Indonesia and that Malaysia when formed would take care of Sabah’s security.

The recent spate of shootings and violence in the Peninsular has proven beyond any reasonable doubt that the federal agencies responsible for policing and security cannot even handle daily security in the Peninsular.

The problem is further compounded with the majority of police personnel being roped in to undertake special branch duties and for political purposes to monitor, spy on and harassing the opposition and man-handle the ordinary people in the street instead of crime prevention and criminal investigations.

The security or rather insecurity problem is doubled in Sabah when the situation has now reached boiling point after decades of supporting, training and arming the Muslim rebellion in the Philippines by the Federal government with the rebellion now back to Sabah’s shores. The situation is tripled with the wanton issuance of dubious identity cards with voting rights given to illegal immigrants through the ‘Project IC Mahathir/Ops Durian Buruk’ to change the demography of Sabah and to maintain the Umno/BN regime in power, both in Sabah and at the federal level.

One wonders how the Federal government can provide adequate security to Sabahans with the twin threats of insurgency and illegal immigrants given ICs when they cannot even provide basic policing and internal security in the Peninsular without the twin threats.

The time has come for the Sabah government to stop the denial syndrome and be pro-active to ensure the security of Malaysians in Sabah and to allay their rising fears of insecurity. The time is now ripe for Sabahans and the Sabah government, after 50 years of continuous failure in Malaysia, to take control of their own sovereignty, autonomy and complement security in Sabah.

STAR Sabah reiterates its earlier call for the establishment of the Sabah Homeland Security, Immigration and Registration Commission as a precursor to the establishment of its Ministry, before the security situation deteriorate further and before it’s too late.

Musa an ideal candidate, says Salleh

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Musa Aman is an ideal candidate to run for one of the three Umno vice-president posts in the coming party elections, said Sabah Umno liaison deputy chief Salleh Said Keruak.

Sabah Umno deputy liaison chief Salleh said Musa, who is the state Umno liaison chief and state Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, is a visionary and experienced leader with good leadership qualities.

He added that Umno Sabah will be solidly behind the chief minister “if he decides to bid for Umno vice-president post.”

“Musa is a committed party worker and delivers what he promises unlike some leaders who just play politics and create his own grouping,” he told reporters after meeting a group of Umno grassroot leaders at his residence in Likas, near here today.

Spearheaded by Musa, BN retained Sabah with a two-third majority in the 13th general election by winning 48 of the 60 state seats.

The state BN also won 22 of 25 parliamentary seats in Sabah, leading to the formation of the BN government at federal level.

Salleh, who is also the State Legislative Assembly Speaker, said Umno Sabah is not aiming for higher positions in the party.

“What we want is for the top leadership to recognise our struggle and the unique political situation in Sabah.

“We also want to bring development to our people and more de-centralisation and delegation of power to the state government led by Umno,” he said.

Salleh added that this is what Sabahans are fighting for and that, whenever possible fund must be channelled to the state government.

“Sabah has been part of Malaysia for 50 years and we, Sabahans, are capable of bringing about development in the state,” he said.

Salleh has recently called on the federal government to streamline the rural infrastruture allocation system for Sabah with federal government channelling funds directly to the state government to boost the effectiveness of project implementation, particularly the four components of rural development projects.

The four are Rural Roads (JLB), Rural Water Supply (BALB), Rural Electricity Supply (BELB) and Housing Aid Programme (PBR).

Speed Up Work on 2 Bridges - Jeffrey

Keningau: The government should take serious action on the two bridges situated near the Tamu Ground and Sasaie Bingkor bypass for the convenience of the people. Bingkor Assemblyman, Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan said this to told reporters on Wednesday after visiting the two bridges.

The bridges, especially that one near the Tamu Ground, have been neglected for 17 years after Typhoon Greg hit Keningau.

“This bridge needed immediate replacement for the convenience of the people, especially road users using the bridge daily,” he said.He said, since it has been neglected for 17 years, the government should take immediate action to repair it or replace it with a new one.

Jeffrey said, although there is a wooden bridge that was built after the concrete bridge collapsed, but it burdening road users because always congestion occurred, in addition the bridge can only be used for one-way passage.

He said the bridge had collapse in 1996, but no action had been taken to repair it despite numerous public complaints.“I understand that the allocation for this bridge is already there, but why no action until now to build a new bridge?

He said the government should act immediately in accordance with the slogan ‘People First, Performance Now and Promises are kept’.

Jeffrey also urged the government to rebuild the iron bridge near Kampung Sasaie Bingkor Bypass because it contributed to traffic congestion during peak hours. Moreover, the bridge is outdated, he said.

Jeffrey also requested that the construction of the bridge at Bandukan Bingkor be completed on schedule in September this year.

“But I have learned that work on it has been suspended many times as the Bayoyo River was in flood. However, I sincerely hope that the bridge costing nearly RM7 million can be completed at the end of this year, “he said.

Jeffrey also thanked to the officials of Public Works Department (PWD) who participated in his working visit to inspect projects under the purview of the department.

“Although I am an opposition Wakil Rakyat, I hope that we can cooperate for the benefit of the people,” he said.
